In today’s gospel, Jesus Christ expressed a unique character of the kingdom of God that depicts the sort of gathering mentioned in the second reading according to St. Paul’s letter to the Hebrews. “…you have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering, …” The aim of His address is to enable the guests and the host bring out the true character of the gathering in the name of God.
One being elevated to the high table of the occasion brings out the human worth and the quality of life befitting of a Christian. Besides, inviting those who are not able to reciprocate your invitation, gives one an opportunity to share the resources given to us by God for the good of humanity. according to Jesus Christ, ‘…blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you’. The reward that awaits every human action begins with a simple disposition of humility. This is the message of Christ to both the invitees and the host. This is the true character of the kingdom of God.
