SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI)
22nd June 2019
Genesis 14:18-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Luke 9:11-17.
From the point of view of the second reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, the body and blood of Christ are real food that reenacts the merits of triumphant sacrifice on the cross. Jesus Christ offered himself to the devil in order to reveal the single victim mechanism responsible for all human predicament. He revealed Satan the ‘accuser of the brethren’. Such that the eating and drinking of His body and blood respectively, will continue to expel Satan and his influences.
The sacrament of the Holy Eucharist which we celebrate everyday is meant to reveal and expel this single victim mechanism. It is the responsibility of receiving the Holy Communion that will carry out this work in us. The church encourages the frequent and respectful reception of this communion in order to build a lasting kingdom of God.
