PENTECOST SUNDAY, YEAR C
9th June 2019
Acts 2:1-11; 1 Corinthians 12:3-7,12-13; John 20:19-23.
Today the church is born. The kingdom of God is established. The Holy Spirit, the advocate and the motivational force behind all the activities of the church is manifested in the life of the Apostles. The manifestation is expressed in a manner depicting a kingdom for all nations. The exclamation from some devout men from all nation living in Jerusalem on the Pentecost morning said it all: How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language? The Holy Spirit knows no boundary it its work of animating and enlightening the church.
The animation of the church by the Holy Spirit is towards the unity of the children of God. The Holy Spirit breaks down the barriers that keep us apart from one another. He builds us in a church, a kingdom modeled after the Heavenly Kingdom. According to St. Paul in the second reading: In the one Spirit we were all baptized, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as citizens, and one Spirit was given to us all to drink.
The work of uniting humanity will be done through the ever-attractive force of forgiveness. Only the Holy Spirit can guarantee this. Receive the Holy Spirit!
